John & Brian—Redux

Cover of my Australian inspired loose page journal

Two of the single page spreads that make up the journal

I was lucky enough to spend three days on Whidbey Island taking another mixed media journaling class from Brian Kasstle and John Arbuckle at the Pacific Northwest Art School.  Five of us banded together and rented a house for our stay.  We all had the best time.  Early risers all, I loved our morning gatherings around the kitchen table, drinking coffee, looking at our electronics and marveling at the blood red sun as it rose.  (Because of a lot of smoke in the atmosphere from wildfires in British Columbia, we have had amazing sunrises and sunsets.)

Brian and John led us through a series of steps to create each of the ten sides (5 cards) that comprise the journal.  We were encouraged to have a theme, but it wasn’t necessary.  I used my recent trip to Australia as inspiration and chose colors, emphemera and images that were reminders of my time there.  Each spread incorporated different techniques.  I learned so many new techniques and how to mix them up to achieve different backgrounds and effects.

It was so much fun!
